OMG, Who Can Afford Gas?

I just don't understand why we've made ourselves so fully dependent upon foreign countries for oil when we have production capability here?  As I listened to the news this morning, the president is more concerned with education than the fact that fuel prices are approaching $5.00 a gallon in some states. Why are we as a nation not letting our voices be heard?  How much can we take before we snap?   California, with their special blend, pays the most at the moment, but other states are following suit.  I realize that education is important, but who'll have the money to drive to school if the prices continue to creep upward? Unemployment is still at an all time high, and yes jobs are being created, but unless you are certified as a heavy-equipment operator to work on the nation's infrastructure, you're screwed.

It's not just gasoline or diesel...when the price of fuel goes up, everything else follows suit.  Trucking companies and Independent Owners have to cover the increase somehow so they charge the stores to whom they deliver, while the stores pass the increase onto us.  I paid $1.50 for ONE tomato yesterday. The news attributed the increase in food prices  to the weird weather we've experienced, but how about the spike in everything else?

I'm frightened for our future.  Am I the only one?  The unrest in the Middle East  is not going away anytime soon...in fact it seems to be spreading.  Isn't it time that we took charge of our own future and drilled for oil so we can thumb our noses at those who currently control our lives?  I'd like to concentrate on writing romance novels and find solace in a make-believe world, but who'll be able to afford the luxury of a book, be it ebook or print if the pattern continues?  Why are we being so complacent, and what can we do?

In the meantime, I'm still doing my blog tour this month, although I don't hold out much hope that readers are going to flock to my scheduled sites.  If nothing else, maybe I can provide a chuckle to ease the tension, at least for the moment.  Today I'm at Marsha A. Moore's site.  Please come join me and Ty...from Sparta Rose.

  2. I agree wholehearted with you.Only the rich will be able to afford gas and food. Living on a fixed income it gets harder all the time just to get by.

I don't understand why people are not doing more, complain, write to the president and let him know it won't be tolerated.

Crime is higher because there are no jobs or money for people to live any longer. I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

I agree we should be drilling for our own oil as well as why should we have to buy from these countries when we have our own oil. Until people get fed up and start doing something, it will stay the same. shirley
