Wednesday Wisdom or attempt at...

Wednesdays are now devoted to sharing information, and I welcome input. If you have a topic you'd like to discuss, please let me know and I'll toss it out for debate. I thought about sharing tips on writing, tips on editing, but all day, I couldn't think of anything else except the current state of affairs.

Ladies and Gentlemen...we're screwed. Our new president can't even fill his cabinet with people who haven't cheated on their income tax or have some other shady secrets. Now when over one million people are unemployed...and this isn't counting those who have been cut back on hours or days and are considered 'underemployed, the senate can't even come together to find a solution that's going to get us out of this mess. Rather than consider that middle-class America is out here drowning and needs a life ring NOW, the democrats and republicans (and yes, I didn't capitalize them for a reason) are trying to one up each other to show who has control of the house. This isn't a pissing contest. This is serious business. It's time to put party lines aside and work for the common good of America.

In a country that is so techno-advanced and has made so many other major strides, why are we still operating under a government patterned by our forefathers? Why do we continue to elect the same ineffectual people to any position that has no term limits? The President is limited to how long he can serve, but Senators and House members can serve until they can no longer sit upright, drool on themselves, and be helped to cast their vote. No disrespect to senior citizens, but there comes a time to admit someone else may be a little more qualified...and sharper.

Ask yourself and then leave a comment...Would we be better off to vote for a person rather than a party? What is the benefit if the person elected doesn't know chit from china? (No inference intended to President Obama, although if the shoe fits, he might want to slip it on.) This is not a one person fix. Everyone needs to work together and that just ain't happenin'.

  1. Ginger - do you not vote these people in? I know nothing about the American system. In the UK we vote MPs into the House of Commons, but not The House of Lords. How does America do it?

  2. You sure hit the nail on the head Ginger. My first little itch that we (the american people) may of screwed up was when he let the demoocratic party spend $150,000,000 on the inagruation. HELLO, filter that money down to all of us who are struggling to feed our children and keep our homes!!!! I, actually would be happy with the $400,000 Barbara Bush spent on china. I sit here everyday and wonder what the heck is wrong with these people. I guess the saying is right, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

  3. Yes, we do vote them in, but unfortunately people don't like change and keep voting in the same people, despite their track record. Term limits need to be imposed to force new blood into the system. The retirement guidelines for the federal government is 65, and the same should be imposed on politicians. Just my humble opinion.

  4. Jen,
Just for example, Ted Kennedy was elected in 1962 and has continued to hold office despite the fact that he now has a malignant brain tumor. I mean no disrespect and am terribly sorry for his condition, but that's 42 years in the Senate. Time for some new blood, but I guess Massachusetts thinks he's all that and a bag of chips.

  5. It's the "old boy" network. It's hard - no matter how good you are, how good your idea's are, or your intentions, who would be helped by it, if the "old boys" of the Congress & Senate don't want it....it doesn't stand a chance.

I have seen it time and again. It's a struggle for anyone who really wants change, ethical goverment, and to serve the people of this country (instead of themselves, and their biggest contributors). And if you aren't "going along" you aren't going to get anywhere, and you will be "out" before you really get in. It's truly sad. There are so many new and good ideas but they are trashed before being even considered for reasons only the legislators really know.
As my mother used to say...can't fight city hall with a pea shooter. (which I think meant one person just can't do it alone without any serious weapons).
