Did you Know?

About President Obama’s scheduled address to students across America on September 8, 2009!

I didn't, neither did my grandson's parents. While I promised to do my political ranting on a separate blog, I feel this is important enough to share here. Whether I'm an author or a plumber, I'm still a concerned citizen, and I find it disturbing that a president who has fallen from grace with adult voters, is now turning to our children. I commented in great detail on my other blog, but there is one question I have to ask. If religion has been banned from schools, then why is it okay to discuss politics.

An entire suggested "agenda" has been prepared for teachers to follow, before, during and after the President's speech. One portion disturbed me because I feel it needs to be revised.

Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?

I wonder if it shouldn't be altered to say, Why is it important for the president and congress to listen to the people who elected them--solicit their opinions before acting in haste. Shouldn't those who take an oath to act in the best interest of their constituents honor it? Just because someone is an elected official, it does not make them above reproach. You can't always trust what they say because often they represent special interest groups who promise support for future campaigns.

We've taken God out of the Pledge, so why are we putting Obama in our schools?

  1. Oh how true!

If there's one thing I can't stand it's how the American people are sreaming for to be heard and all the politicians do is say "That's not what America thinks or needs." I don't care what they think me and my fellow contrymen need. I voted for said candidate to act on "MY" behalf, to be "MY" voice. You can't lead unless you've followed and these idiots can't follow a straight line if they were tied to it!

Ok I feel somewhat better now that I've ranted some. :D

    Have a great day!

  2. I totally agree that politicians should not be using schools to push their agendas. Leave the kids alone.

On another note, I have given you the Kreativ Blog Award. Hope you have time to visit my blog for the rules.

  3. It's not only that his royal highness thinks that what he says is important enough to be spread to all the schools in the country, but to have the children write a letter to themselves saying what they could do to help the President is more than believable. Also did you know there are posters in the schools now that tell the children to Pledge Allegiance to the Earth? Not to the Flag of the United States, but to the Earth. If we don't stop this attack on our country now, before long we will discover that we no longer have a country.

  4. I think both politics and religion should be discussed in all schools. We need informed, well-educated, tolerant students who may then have the chance to grow up into informed, well educated, tolerant adults - perhaps even good politicians and theologists.

When did Americans become so set against intelligent debate? I don't know. Why not listen to speeches, then debate their merits? Isn't the most important thing to teach kids how to come to their own conclusions based on the facts?

Just a thought. guess I should get off of my soap box now, which is really just pro-education.

Politics and religion may have a place when children are more grounded and older--say in U.S. government classes H.S kids elect to take. I have no problem with anyone encouraging our children to succeed, but did you even read the "agenda" that went along with the speech and was given to all teachers to use before, during and after? That was the disturbing part for me.

Given all the complaints received, I wasn't alone, and the speech he delivered today was well done. I gave him kudos on my other blog. I always respect anyone's opinion, whether differing or not. I just wish those of us who express our concerns wouldn't be labeled as right-winged racists, as we are now being called for making a to do about this speech. Of course...it was the one scheduled to be delivered, not the altered and appropriate version we all heard today.
