Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

I missed last week because of hospitalization and illness, and although I still can't promise to visit many sites, I don't want to miss the fun of being part of this group.  Although I've stopped working on Chugiak Moon in favor of Sarah's Passion, I'll still share six from my Alaskan Historical with you today, but be warned...next week, I'll most likely be switching gears yet again since I need to get this sequel finished and to my publisher. I'm facing surgery in the near future, so I should have plenty of time to write.  Not the most ideal of situations, but...  There just aren't enough hours in the day, especially when chronic fatigue has a hold on me and I nap frequently.  :)  Anyhow...here is my six for today:

Her [Nasnani's] thoughts drifted to her closest companion, Nailoni, and the good times they shared.  This year, as a first, their families had migrated in different directions to follow game trails, and Nasnani hungered for the company of her dear friend.  Were her hand's as blistered and sore? Did she find time to think of the distance between them?  More importantly, would Nailoni be the first to find a mate?  The competitive thought tightened Nasnani's jaw despite how deeply she cared for the other young woman.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome to Dishin' It Out.  I appologize for not making my usual rounds last week, but I got to spend a few unplanned days in the hospital.  I'm back this week with another six from my WIP, Chugiak Moon.  Remember, this is a first draft and I'm researching as I go until I get back to Alaska to learn more about the Tanaina tribe.

Set Up: Nasnana  is trying to fall asleep after working hard all day with those who have gathered along the caribou migration trail to repair the fence and surround in order to replenish their stores for the coming winter.  During the day, she came face-to-face with someone of another clan who stirs an unusual interest and she can't seem to get him off her mind:

She snuggled down and scrunched her eyelids together. Still thoughts tumbled through her mind, but she steeered them away from his hauntingly handsome face.  Each day, the weather turned colder. Winter white lingered in the gray clouds that masked the sky. Soon, snowshoes and heavy parkas would be necessary to combat the icy months ahead. She much preferred the long summer days, even though hours of continuous daylight called for the sacrifice of the beautiful northern lights.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome back to Chugiak Moon, my historical romance WIP set in Alaska.  In the previous six, Nasnana hadccome face-to-face with a handsome stranger who offered her a drink.  Now, while tossing and turning in bed,  she's reflecting back and imagining a future, as most young girls do.

Today's six:

Her voice failing, she'd nodded and accepted the water then took a long draw. Had he noticed her among all the others and found her attractive? He wasn’t part of her matriarchal clan, so an eligible mate. Perhaps he had wealth enough to win her hand.

She shook her head to clear such foolish notions. Dreaming never hurt, but she didn't even know his name, and shyness had robbed her of words to ask.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome to my little part of Six Sentence Sunday.  When you've finished my offering, please head back to the SSS website and follow more of the links.

Here's my six for the week.  Enjoy:

The ebony eyes locked on her, paired with the muscular arm holding out the water bladder she’d earlier sought, froze a breath deep in her chest.  Despite a lack of sunlight in the woodsy thicket, his hair glistened from a recent greasing, and the beaded dentalium necklace peeking from inside his hoodless parka looked quite impressive, although out of place. The highly valued beads provided proof of his standing within his band. Normally received in trade, his neckwear indicated someone who possessed goods to exchange—a person of means.

Thanks for stopping by.  This is the first draft of my WIP, Chugiak Moon, so if you see something I need to consider, comments are welcome.  :)

I'd also like to mention that today, May 6th, is a "free" day on Amazon's KDP program for Ellie's Legacy, an historical romance set in Tennessee.  There's a touch of humor for those who like feisty heroines.  :)  Hey, you can't argue with the price.  "Likes" are appreciated.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Do the weeks get faster and faster, or is it just my imagination?  Anyhow, welcome to Dishin' It Out and my Six Sentence Sunday.  Continuing with Chugiak Moon, my current WIP about the Tanaina, A North American Indian Clan within the northern Athabaskan group.  This is a big step out of my comfort zone, writing about a tribe other than the Lakota Sioux with whom I have a deep affection.  This book promises to be slow-going as I know virtually nothing about the Tanaina, so we'll be learning together as I research.  :)

Set up for this week's six:

My heroine, Nasnana is working with her clan and that of others who have gathered for the yearly Caribou migration.  Her recent contact with a member of a different group has stirred an interest she hasn't experienced with anyone of her own clan.  The image of the handsome face and virile body has caused a sleepless night, and she's thinking back on when she first saw him.  Here's today's six:

Returning to her chore, she bent and started pulling brush into her arms.  Despite her long sleeves, sticks and thistles prickled through to her skin, causing her to readjust her load. She recalled a song the tribe often sang around the campfire and  started to hum.

 Someone tapped her shoulder.  “Drink?”

She straightened and swallowed hard.

Now that you've hopefully enjoyed my six (and left a comment), please head back to Six Sentence Sunday and follow some of the other links.  There's a ton to choose from.  I'm pretty sure only superman could visit each and everyone of them.  :)

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Well, there's been a change in plans.  My contract for Sarah's Journey has expired, so I'm looking to another publisher to re-release it.  The book is in the process of some minor changes, so once again, I've decided to switch horses midstream, so to speak, and I'll be sharing snippets from my WIP, Chugiak Moon.

By sharing six sentences with you every Sunday, I will effectively be pressuring myself to become more dedicated to finishing this historical novel.  I started researching this project during my trip to Alaska last year, and the Tanaina Culture within the Athabascan Indians is the feature of my story.  Since I'm going to start at the very beginning, I don't think I'll need to set up anything for you.  As a die-hard pantser, we'll all find out the story as it progresses.  I have no idea where my heroine, Nasnana, is taking me.  (big smile.)

After you finish my six here (and hopefully leave a positive comment), please head back to Six Sentence Sunday and follow more of the links.  Here's my six today:

A wolf’s howl pierced the night--a chilling sound, too close for comfort.  Although Nasnana's pallet sat atop birch branches inside her family's lodge, a chill crept over her and sent her snuggling deeper into her caribou blankets.  Despite the downy softness, she shivered. Perhaps fear rather than the cold iced her.  Pulling the fur higher, she ducked her head beneath it.  She hated noises at night.

Ginger's Lucky Seven MeMe

Fellow historical author and good friend, Mirella Patzer, has honored me as someone she follows and whose books she enjoys.  To say I'm awed is an understatement because she's always been someone I emulate.  The honor requires that I share my current WIP, following these rules:

1.  Go to page 77 of your current work in progress.
2.  Go to line 7.
3.  Copy the next 7 lines or sentences as written and post them onto your blog or website.
4.  Tag 7 other authors.
5.  Let them know they've been tagged.
I'm more than happy to participate, BUT I can't exactly follow the instructions which tell me to go to page seventy-seven, as I've not yet gotten that far.  I've only just started, so I decided to alter the directions and start with paragraph SEVEN and share the seven sentences from that point.  So, here is my offering from Chugiak Moon, which is set in 1840 Alaska and features historical facts about a Tainana Athabascan tribe, and my heroine Nasnana and a hero yet to be named.  I hope you enjoy it:
She straightened and swallowed hard.  The ebony eyes looking at her, paired with the muscular arm holding out the water bladder she’d earlier sought, took away her breath.  Despite a lack of sunlight in the woodsy thicket, his hair shone from a recent greasing, and the beaded dentalium necklace he wore looked quite impressive, although out of place. The highly-valued beads provided proof of his standing within his band, as they were normally received in trade, and those who had goods to exchange were considered well-to-do.
Her voice failing, she nodded and accepted the water, and took a long draw.  Had he noticed her among all the others and found her attractive?  He wasn’t part of her matriarchal clan, so he was an eligible mate.
Now I have to name seven of my favorite historical authors.  Hmmm, this'll be hard because I have so many:

Now comes that hard part--notifying them.  Everyone is so busy, it's hard to find time to add one more thing to already full schedules, but we'll see if they're game.  These are some of the best!
