Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome to Dishin' It Out and another Six Sentence Sunday.  As I told you last week, if you visited, I needed to switch gears because I'm trying to finish Sarah's Passion, the sequel to Sarah's Heart, so I'm putting Chugiak Moon on the back burner for a few weeks, and inviting you to share six sentences from my latest WIP.  I never expected to have one, let alone two Jimmy Thomas Covers, and I love both of them.

A little back story from the blurb for Sarah's Heart:  Previously published as Sarah's Journey

Will the man of mixed blood save her life, or will she save his?

When Sarah Collins sets her sights on California for a new beginning, she never dreams a war party will attack the wagon train she travels on. She and her new-found friend Molly are the sole survivors, but when Molly succumbs to her injuries, Sarah is left alone to find her way back to civilization. While trying to mount a stolen horse, she suffers a rattlesnake bite that threatens to accomplish what the Indians failed. Is it her time to die or does Sarah have a purpose she's yet to discover?

Now, Sarah awakens in modern day Manhattan, a dream so real in her mind that tears still dampen her cheeks.  The goodbye kiss she shared with Grey Wolf (Nathaniel Elder) still burns on her lips.  How could a dream cause her heart to hurt so much?  Imagine her amazement when she answers a knock on her door and finds the man from her dream is a new neighbor coming to borrow a cup of sugar.  She remembers everything about him, even his name, but there isn't even a flicker of recognition in his beautiful hazel eyes.

Here's my six for the week:

“Nathaniel Elder.”  Sarah Collins leaned her elbows atop the manuscript spread across her desk and rested her chin between her raised palms.  Her editing chore forgotten, she stared into space, picturing “Wolf’s” handsome face and puzzling over the amazement that led him to her doorstep directly from a dream so real she awoke with tears still wet on her cheeks.

“Something wrong, Miss Collins?”  A brusque voice sliced through her thoughts.

Sarah jerked upright and stared into the face of her supervisor, Mr. Crane, who stood in her doorway, his unibrow crooked upward with piqued curiosity.

I hope you enjoyed my offering, and I also hope you'll return to Six Sentence Sunday and follow the links to more snippets. Ya'll come back, ya hear?

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

I missed last week because of hospitalization and illness, and although I still can't promise to visit many sites, I don't want to miss the fun of being part of this group.  Although I've stopped working on Chugiak Moon in favor of Sarah's Passion, I'll still share six from my Alaskan Historical with you today, but be warned...next week, I'll most likely be switching gears yet again since I need to get this sequel finished and to my publisher. I'm facing surgery in the near future, so I should have plenty of time to write.  Not the most ideal of situations, but...  There just aren't enough hours in the day, especially when chronic fatigue has a hold on me and I nap frequently.  :)  Anyhow...here is my six for today:

Her [Nasnani's] thoughts drifted to her closest companion, Nailoni, and the good times they shared.  This year, as a first, their families had migrated in different directions to follow game trails, and Nasnani hungered for the company of her dear friend.  Were her hand's as blistered and sore? Did she find time to think of the distance between them?  More importantly, would Nailoni be the first to find a mate?  The competitive thought tightened Nasnani's jaw despite how deeply she cared for the other young woman.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome to Dishin' It Out.  I appologize for not making my usual rounds last week, but I got to spend a few unplanned days in the hospital.  I'm back this week with another six from my WIP, Chugiak Moon.  Remember, this is a first draft and I'm researching as I go until I get back to Alaska to learn more about the Tanaina tribe.

Set Up: Nasnana  is trying to fall asleep after working hard all day with those who have gathered along the caribou migration trail to repair the fence and surround in order to replenish their stores for the coming winter.  During the day, she came face-to-face with someone of another clan who stirs an unusual interest and she can't seem to get him off her mind:

She snuggled down and scrunched her eyelids together. Still thoughts tumbled through her mind, but she steeered them away from his hauntingly handsome face.  Each day, the weather turned colder. Winter white lingered in the gray clouds that masked the sky. Soon, snowshoes and heavy parkas would be necessary to combat the icy months ahead. She much preferred the long summer days, even though hours of continuous daylight called for the sacrifice of the beautiful northern lights.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome back to Chugiak Moon, my historical romance WIP set in Alaska.  In the previous six, Nasnana hadccome face-to-face with a handsome stranger who offered her a drink.  Now, while tossing and turning in bed,  she's reflecting back and imagining a future, as most young girls do.

Today's six:

Her voice failing, she'd nodded and accepted the water then took a long draw. Had he noticed her among all the others and found her attractive? He wasn’t part of her matriarchal clan, so an eligible mate. Perhaps he had wealth enough to win her hand.

She shook her head to clear such foolish notions. Dreaming never hurt, but she didn't even know his name, and shyness had robbed her of words to ask.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Do the weeks get faster and faster, or is it just my imagination?  Anyhow, welcome to Dishin' It Out and my Six Sentence Sunday.  Continuing with Chugiak Moon, my current WIP about the Tanaina, A North American Indian Clan within the northern Athabaskan group.  This is a big step out of my comfort zone, writing about a tribe other than the Lakota Sioux with whom I have a deep affection.  This book promises to be slow-going as I know virtually nothing about the Tanaina, so we'll be learning together as I research.  :)

Set up for this week's six:

My heroine, Nasnana is working with her clan and that of others who have gathered for the yearly Caribou migration.  Her recent contact with a member of a different group has stirred an interest she hasn't experienced with anyone of her own clan.  The image of the handsome face and virile body has caused a sleepless night, and she's thinking back on when she first saw him.  Here's today's six:

Returning to her chore, she bent and started pulling brush into her arms.  Despite her long sleeves, sticks and thistles prickled through to her skin, causing her to readjust her load. She recalled a song the tribe often sang around the campfire and  started to hum.

 Someone tapped her shoulder.  “Drink?”

She straightened and swallowed hard.

Now that you've hopefully enjoyed my six (and left a comment), please head back to Six Sentence Sunday and follow some of the other links.  There's a ton to choose from.  I'm pretty sure only superman could visit each and everyone of them.  :)

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Continuing last week from my current WIP, Chugiak Moon, I offer the following six:

Around her, the constant breathing and occasional snores indicated her family slept soundly.  How she wished she could, but thoughts of the young man she’d met while preparing for the fall hunt stirred her to sleeplessness.  Such a fine specimen, and so unlike any of the undesirables in her own clan.  With her first menses celebration held years ago, at nearly nineteen summers, she was ready to find a mate.  Her mind spun, carrying her back to yesterday when she’d first laid eyes on him.
“Nasnana, bring more brush,” father had snapped instructions as they labored with other clan mates on the fence following the caribou migration trail.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Today, I'm sharing sentences from one of my older releases that I love, Sarah's Journey.  I aspire to be like my heroine and hope the good traits Sarah portrays mirror my own.  I'm posting the blurb to set up the story for you.

Blurb:
Sarah Collins sets her sights on California for a new beginning but never dreams a war party will attack the wagon train she travels on.  She and her friend are the sole survivors, but when Molly succumbs to her injuries, Sarah has to find her way back to civilization on her own. Stampeding buffalo, the black prairie nights and eerie noises…just when she believes she’s facing the worst time of her life, a rattlesnake bite threatens to accomplish where the Indians failed.  Is it her time to die or does Sarah have a purpose that is yet to be accomplished?

Here's today's six:
If not for the carnage, it would be a beautiful day—wispy clouds floated in a powder blue sky and an endless sea of waving prairie grass announced the arrival of spring.  The only sound came from the bubbling water in the nearby stream as it traveled over a rocky bed.
Sarah remembered everything now.  They had just made camp when war cries sliced the air.  A few hours of daylight had remained, but one family’s illness prompted the wagon master to halt travel for the day.  Supper fires hadn’t even been lit when a band of whooping Indians with painted faces stormed the group.

This book is featured with all my others on my Amazon Author's Page, and for sale directly from Eternal Press in both print and download.

Ginger's Six Sentence Sunday

Hi, and welcome back to Dishin' It Out.  I was on a little hiatus last week, and I sure missed following my favorites on SSS.  Today, I'm continuing with my current WIP, Hattie's Hero, which will  be an historical time-travel if I ever get it finished.  It started with a YA heroine, but I fear she's going to be a senior citizen before long.  *lol* Just a quick reminder; Hattie is preparing to leave the orphanage, answering an ad she found posted at Cronin's mercantile.

Here's my offering, and I hope you enjoy it:

[Hattie's] Her palms turned moist the minute she spied a dapper gentleman standing outside the mercantile. He wore the black Coachman’s hat Mister Cronin had indicated he would.
Despite her churning innards, she closed the gap between them on leaden legs and managed a weak smile. His tailored charcoal frock coat, starched white shirt and perfectly pressed trousers indicated a man of means. A thick moustache, broad shoulders, and angular jaw made him quite attractive, but clearly impatient if his tapping foot was any indication. A glance down at her tacky apparel brought warmth to her cheeks. If her employment rested on her looks…

Don't forget to head back to Six Sentence Sunday and check out the links to more sites.  This is a really fun weekly event, so I hope you come back for a visit.  Don't forget to leave a comment.  You never know when I'll pick a name for something from my backlist.  :)
